Connecting TestFreaks Reviews

Import your TestFreaks product reviews into a catalog — how to get the Client ID and API key from TestFreaks and connect them in Renable.

Updated October 4, 2026

If TestFreaks collects your product reviews, Renable can fetch them through the TestFreaks API and use the best quotes and star ratings in your ads. You need two things: your Client ID and an API key.

Step 1: get your credentials from TestFreaks#

TestFreaks credentials aren't self-service — per TestFreaks' API documentation, API keys are provided by your TestFreaks contact. Contact your TestFreaks account representative and ask them for your Client ID and an API key for read access to your reviews.

Step 2: connect in Renable#

On the catalog's page, open the review-feed settings, choose TestFreaks as the source, and paste the Client ID and API key into their fields. Or simply ask Aimée on the catalog page ("connect our TestFreaks reviews") and paste the two values into the chat — she saves the connection for you.

Either way, Renable validates the connection against the TestFreaks API before saving, and tells you if the credentials don't work — so you never end up with a silently broken review source. The check shows a sample of your accepted reviews from TestFreaks; it doesn't look up single products, so the review-feed dialog doesn't offer SKUs to test for TestFreaks.

Matching reviews to products#

TestFreaks reviews are matched to your products by product identifiers (Product ID, Item group ID, Brand+MPN, or GTIN, tried in that order). If reviews aren't landing on the products you expect, the usual cause is that the identifiers TestFreaks holds for your products don't match the ones in your product feed — see Connecting a review feed.

Good to know#

  • Renable checks TestFreaks every hour, so a new review usually shows up within about an hour, without any manual step. The first import after connecting fetches every review and can take longer on a large catalog.
  • A product that's new in your product feed gets the TestFreaks reviews Renable has already imported for it — nothing extra is fetched for it.
  • Only reviews TestFreaks has accepted in moderation are used. A review TestFreaks rejects, or one still waiting for moderation, is not shown in your ads: if it was imported earlier, it is removed at the next hourly check and the products that quoted it get new review quotes. A review that TestFreaks accepts later is imported then.
  • A review that goes back to waiting for moderation at TestFreaks (for example after its author edits it) is removed the same way, together with any approval or edit you made to it in Renable. Once TestFreaks accepts it again it comes back as a new review that you can approve again.
  • If TestFreaks stops accepting the Client ID and API key, the catalog shows a Review import failing error on the dashboard. Nothing is removed while it stands; your products keep their current reviews. Paste the current credentials into the catalog's review settings; the error clears by itself at the next hourly check that gets through.
  • If a check can't reach TestFreaks, no review is lost: a later check fetches everything the failed one would have. While TestFreaks is unreachable, new reviews can take a few hours to appear instead of about an hour.
  • Once a week Renable reads your whole review list at TestFreaks and removes the reviews that are no longer in it — deleted by you at TestFreaks, or removed at its author's request. So a deleted review leaves your ads within about a week, and the products that quoted it get new review quotes. On a large catalog this weekly check can take a few hours, and new reviews then show up when it finishes. A full re-import of the catalog's reviews does the same check right away.
  • If the weekly check finds none of your imported reviews in TestFreaks' list (for example because the Client ID now points to another account), it removes nothing, shows a Review removals paused notice for the catalog on your dashboard, and tries again the next day. New and changed reviews keep being imported meanwhile, and the notice goes away by itself once a weekly check finds the catalog's reviews again.
  • One exception: if TestFreaks returns no reviews at all for your account and the catalog has fewer than 20 TestFreaks reviews, Renable takes that as an account whose reviews really were deleted and removes them. With 20 or more, it shows the notice instead and removes nothing. If every review of a larger account really was deleted, remove the catalog's review source and publish — that removes its reviews.
