A catalog can optionally import the reviews your customers have written for your products. Aimée uses these to pull short quotes and star ratings into ad copy — review-backed creative tends to perform noticeably better than generic copy. See Selecting and approving reviews for how Aimée picks and you approve the actual quotes.
Review feeds are configured on the catalog's detail page, alongside the product feed.
Supported review sources#
For the API-based sources (Trustpilot, Bazaarvoice, TestFreaks, Yotpo), generate the credentials in that provider's own dashboard or developer settings, then paste them into the matching fields in Renable's Review feed dialog — the per-provider guides above show where each credential lives. For the XML feed, just paste the feed URL. You can also hand the credentials to Aimée on the catalog page — she validates the connection live before saving it.
Matching reviews to products#
Review feeds don't always use the same product identifiers as your product feed, so the Match reviews to products using field lets you choose how Renable should match an incoming review to the right product:
- Product ID, Item group ID, Brand+MPN, GTIN (default) — tries each of these identifiers in order until one matches. Good for most setups.
- A specific custom_label field (0–4) from your product feed — use this if your review provider's export lines up with one of your feed's custom label fields instead.
If reviews aren't showing up on the products you expect, a mismatched matching key between your product feed and your review provider's export is the most common cause.
Import cadence#
A Google review XML feed is downloaded once a day, and imported again whenever its contents have changed since the last complete import, or the previous import did not complete. For Bazaarvoice and Trustpilot, Renable fetches every product's reviews when you connect, then checks a slice of the catalog every hour, so each product is checked once a week.
TestFreaks is checked every hour for new reviews and for reviews whose moderation changed, so they usually show up in Renable within about an hour. The first import after connecting, and a full re-import, fetch every review and can take longer on a large catalog; the hourly checks pick up from where it finished. Once a week Renable reads the whole TestFreaks review list again to find deleted reviews (below); on a large catalog that takes a few hours, and new reviews then show up when it finishes.
Changing or removing the review source#
When you publish a catalog with a different review source — another provider, another feed URL, or another account at the same provider — the reviews from the old source are removed from the catalog and the new source is imported from scratch. Your products show no reviews until the new import has run, so expect a gap: for an XML feed usually within the hour, and for Bazaarvoice and Trustpilot possibly longer while Renable fetches every product's reviews. Approvals and edits you made to the old source's reviews are removed with them.
Replacing only the API key of the same account (for example after rotating a key at the provider) keeps your reviews and imports everything again. Bazaarvoice is the exception: its API key identifies the account, so a new Bazaarvoice key counts as a new source.
Removing the review source and publishing removes the catalog's reviews.
Reviews removed at the provider#
For a Google Product Review XML feed, a review that no longer appears in the feed — deleted by the customer or removed by moderation — is removed from Renable on the next complete import, and the products that quoted it get new review quotes. A failed or incomplete import never removes anything.
For Trustpilot, a review that Trustpilot reports as deleted (for example when the reviewer deletes it or their profile) is removed from Renable within about 6 hours, and the products that quoted it get new review quotes. Reviews Trustpilot hides for other reasons, such as moderation, aren't on Trustpilot's deletions list; Renable removes them once a product's weekly check has stopped finding them for two weeks, so within about three weeks. A check that couldn't read all of a product's reviews removes nothing, and neither does a catalog for which Trustpilot has returned no reviews at all for days. Reviews of products no longer in your catalog aren't checked, so they stay.
For TestFreaks, only reviews TestFreaks has accepted in moderation are used. A review TestFreaks rejects, or one still waiting for moderation, is removed from Renable at the next hourly check, usually within about an hour, and the products that quoted it get new review quotes; if TestFreaks accepts it later, it is imported then. Reviews deleted at TestFreaks are removed by a weekly check of your whole TestFreaks review list, so they leave your ads within about a week. If that check finds none of the catalog's reviews in the list — for example because the Client ID now points to another account — it removes nothing and shows a Review removals paused notice on your dashboard until a later check finds them again. The one exception is an account for which TestFreaks returns no reviews at all: a catalog with fewer than 20 TestFreaks reviews then has them removed, while a larger one gets the notice.
For Bazaarvoice, a review that no longer appears in a product's review list — deleted, rejected in moderation, or removed at the reviewer's request — is removed from Renable once two of that product's weekly checks in a row have missed it, so within about two weeks, and the products that quoted it get new review quotes. A check that couldn't read the product's whole list removes nothing. Reviews that had already disappeared from Bazaarvoice before Renable started checking, and reviews of products Renable no longer checks, aren't picked up yet. See Connecting Bazaarvoice reviews.
For Yotpo, Renable does not yet pick up reviews deleted at the provider: a review that was already imported stays until the review source is changed or removed.
When reviews can't be fetched#
If Bazaarvoice, Trustpilot, TestFreaks or Yotpo refuses the catalog's credentials, or a Google review XML feed can't be downloaded or read, the catalog shows a Review import failing error on the dashboard. Nothing is removed while it stands; your products keep their current reviews. Check the credentials in the catalog's review settings. The error clears by itself once an import succeeds.
