New free ad image templates released!

We have released a new set of free templates for our self-service users (as a managed services client, we’ll design unique templates for you). All templates handle all the various challenges that e-commerce product data poses and can be further customized to your brand’s look-and-feel using our dynamic creative editor.

The challenges with e-commerce product data: Image availability and variation, Image backgrounds, Content gaps etc.

The main challenge with doing what Renable specializes in; the automation of ad creative generation for full product catalogs, is that e-commerce product data is of varied quality and full of content gaps. Some examples:

  • Some products have plentiful of review content, others have no reviews at all.

  • Some products have only one image, others have many images.

  • Images can be of different types.

  • Product-shot images come with a white background.

  • Some products are on sale, most are not.

Automated handling of all these cases (and many more) through AI content generation/selection and template automations, is essential if you want to automatically generate stunning, highly content rich, and sales-driving ad images and ad videos for your dynamic ads.

Challenge 1: Handling different image types and image availability.

Aimee (Renable’s in-house AI) automatically categorises all your product images, making it possible to design stunning and powerful templates for ad creatives (both images and video).

Classic e-commerce image types

Product images mainly come of two types, the classic Product-shot image and the Lifestyle image:

The “Product-shot“ image (left) is the most widely used type of e-commerce image. It’s usually a picture of the product itself on a white background. While this type of image gives the ad viewer a good understanding of what the product looks like, the white background becomes problematic if you want to put this type of image on a colored background.
Another type of commonly available of e-commerce image, is the “Lifestyle“ image (right). A lifestyle image typically shows the product in its “natural environment”. In this case, the laundry box is displayed in a bathroom environment in a stylish way.

Knowing the type of image gives you more options in terms of how your dynamic ad templates can be designed, and also help you to prioritise the type of image that you prefer your ads to use.

Have a look below, how we can easily handle the following three cases, within the same image template:

  • CASE A: The product has both a lifestyle image and a product-shot image. The template detects this fact and we leverage the availability of both image types by including both images.

  • CASE B: The product has only a lifestyle image. An automation (rule) in the template detects this and hide/display the appropriate layers.

  • CASE C: The product has only a product-shot image. An automation (rule) in the templates detects this and hide/display the appropriate layers.

Automatic handling of all these cases (and many more) through template automations, is essential if you want to automatically generate stunning and highly content rich ad images and ad videos for dynamic ads.

Challenge 2: The annoying background for product-shot images

Aimee automatically removes the background for product images that she has classified as “Product-shot” images. This enables you to stay on-brand, by using coloured backgrounds, background images, and other types of graphical elements, making your full-catalog ad creatives look just as good as if they were manually hand-crafted using tools like Photoshop.

As an example, compare these two ad images:

For the ad image to the left, the white background has not been removed, resulting in an ad image that simply doesn’t look good, definitely not on par with hand crafted ad images. For the ad image to the right, the product image (“product-shot“) has been pre-processed using Aimee’s AI background removal feature, making the resulting ad image look a lot nicer.

Challenge 3: Content gaps for reviews and ad copy

Aimee automatically selects the best customer reviews testimonials for each of your products in your catalog. She also generates the best pieces of ad copy based on your other product data.

Having an abundance of truly powerful ad copy elements for each and every product in your catalog, opens up the possibility to use this content in your full-catalogue dynamic ads. By using the template automation feature (or the template “Fallbacks” feature), you can make sure that your most valuable content is always present in your ads.

Here are a couple of examples how template automations are used to prioritize Social proof (in this case in the form of customer review testimonials) for products that have reviews, and show ad copy generated by Aimee if review content is not available:
